BERNICE BEST

Bernice Isabelle Best was born February 12, 1931 and died July 17, 2008 . She is survived by her life long partner of 59 years, Raymond; her sons Steve of Edmonton; Kelly (Deb) of Saskatoon; her grandchildren Laura and Jeff (Monica) of Airdrie, Caitlin of Calgary and Connor of Vancouver; and also her two little great-granddaughters, Emily and Hailey of Airdrie; sister Helen (George), and brother Rob (Joyce), and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Madison Lena Bruce of Tuxford, her sister Dorothy Durrant of Tuxford, her father and mother-in-law Will and Katie Best of Moose Jaw, her daughter Laura and her daughter-in-law Dale of Edmonton. She will be fondly remembered by many close friends who so affectionately called her Bubbles, Auntie Beanie and the Sugar Cookie Lady. She loved to spend time with family and friends, enjoyed a good laugh, a game of cards or Dirty Marbles. These past number of years were hard on Bernie who suffered from respiratory problems. Her strength and strong will to overcome this ailment is a testament to her character. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend. She was so proud of her family. Bernie was born in Tuxford, Saskatchewan. She attended public school at Blofield School and lived with her Aunt Emma in Moose Jaw while taking her grade 11. In Grade 12, she lived with her sister Helen, in light house keeping (as her father would always say," very light house keeping"). Upon graduating from Grade 12, she found employment with Joyners Department Store in Moose Jaw. In February 1949, she married Raymond Best. During their marriage they travelled to many parts of the province and met life long friends. They lived in Lenny, Keystown, Central Butte, Keeler, Hearne and Belle Plaine. In July of 1986, they retired to Moose Jaw. In retirement they enjoyed traveling south and always looked forward to visiting with family.  The Celebration of Bernie’s life will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Friday August 15, 2008 at 1:30 pm.  A private interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery.  No flowers please. In living memory of Bernie, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.
