Marion Isabel Cole (nee Goatcher)

January 28, 1922 – September 7, 2008

Marion Cole passed away to be with the Lord and beloved family who have gone before her on Sunday, September 7, 2008. A dear wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marion was a wonderful Christian lady who was always there for her family and friends. She will be remembered as a woman who by example showed us how to live with great patience, kindness and a positive attitude. Marion was born in Regina, Saskatchewan but grew up in Montreal where she met and married her soul mate Victor. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. In her younger years Mom had been a schoolteacher in a one-room schoolhouse. After their marriage, Vic and Marion lived in Argentina for 2 years before moving back to Canada to make their home in Moose Jaw. Upon retiring they enjoyed winters in Arizona for many years. Mom was very active in the Moose Jaw Kinette Club and loved to entertain, play bridge with friends, spend time with her grandchildren, read (a life-long passion) and, later in life, paint. Her many oil paintings are something of which she was very proud. Throughout the years Marion and Vic were able to travel to many different areas of the world, sometimes to visit a scene that she had painted from a picture or postcard. Marion was predeceased by her parents, Daisy and Philip Goatcher, sister, Margaret Beavis, brother, Jim Goatcher and infant brother, Philip Goatcher. She is survived by her loving husband Victor Cole, son David (Yvette) Cole of Ottawa and their children, Theresa Cole (Tommy Vavougious) and Barbara Cole (Guy Marcoux), son Chuck (Jeannette) Cole of Moose Jaw and their children, Curtis Cole and Jasmine (Kent) Strom, daughter Christine (Mike) Ward of Moose Jaw and their children, Matthew Ward (Hailey), Marshal Ward (Amanda) and Cody Ward (Bobbi), great-grandchildren George, Nicholas and Alexandria Vavougious, Tristan and Emma Marcoux, Tylar Strom; sisters, Hazel Hibbard and Doris North of the Toronto area; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many great friends. The Funeral Service will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel, 106 Athabasca St.E., Moose Jaw, on Friday, September 12, 2008 at 2:30 pm,  with Rev. John Carley officiating. Mom's wishes were to be cremated and a private interment will be held in the Cole family plot at Rosedale Cemetery at a later time. Mom had been struggling with various pains and ailments in her later years and put up a very brave and strong fight until her final days. Her stay at Pioneers Lodge was brief but was a comforting end to her life and she passed away peacefully. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pioneers Housing, 1000 Albert St., Moose Jaw, SK., S6H 2Y2 or a charity of your choice. In living memory of Marion, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.
