MAY THOMPSON

MAY FLORENCE THOMPSON, a long time resident of Ormiston, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully October 1, 2008 in Saskatoon, at the age of 95. Born the sixth of nine children on June 12, 1913, May grew up and attended school in Brandon, Manitoba.  She was active as a young woman enjoying down hill skiing and motor cycle rides with her brothers. May worked in Brandon at Rumford Laundry as a book keeper and late in the war, she met and on September 30, 1944 married Flight Sergeant Jack Thompson of Winnipeg. They were stationed at Vulcan, Alberta and after his discharge from the RCAF, Jack and May moved to Winnipeg while he completed his engineering degree.  In 1947 they moved to Ormiston, Saskatchewan where Jack managed the sodium sulphate mine.  May assisted in the mine office as needed, and acted as hostess for traveling mine officials. She enjoyed curling, cards, crocheting, knitting, baking, canning, and learning to play the piano.  Later, May was involved with Ladies Aid, church activities and teaching knitting at 4-H.  May also enjoyed working with youth and taught piano lessons at her home and directed community plays.  May and Jack raised two daughters, Janice and Carla, teaching them the importance of family and faith, and the value of education.  After 49 years at Ormiston, May and Jack moved to Moose Jaw where they resided until 2002 when Jack passed away.  May moved to Saskatoon where she spent her final years sustained by her family and faith. May was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Mary Jane Lingard, her daughter, Carla, her husband, Jack, and her brothers: and sisters: Jack, Bill, Violet (Hodgson), Dick, Carlton, Tom, Bob and Phyllis (Douglas).  She is survived by her daughter, Janice (Kim) Anderson and granddaughters: Gillian and Keira Anderson.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 6, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Church of Our Lady, 566 Vaughan Street, Moose Jaw.  Father Tony Sevali C.S.Sp. will preside.  Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army Waterston House, 1845 Osler Street, Regina, S4P 1W1. In living memory of May, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.
