JOAN FISHER

(Video Tribute)

With her family by her side, Margaret “Joan” Fisher, formerly of Admiral, SK., passed away peacefully in Moose Jaw on April 17, 2010 at the age of 74 years, after a short but courageous battle with lung and bone cancer.  She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Danny, son Glenn, mother Dorothy Cockbill, sister Dorothy Campbell and brother Frank Cockbill.  Joan is survived by her children Pam (Willard) Larson – Regina, Chris (Carol) Fisher – Lumsden, Rhonda (Mike) Tremblay – Moose Jaw, Mark (Marlis) Fisher – Lumsden, and their families including eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Joan was born January 16, 1936 in Regina , and grew up in Maryfield and Heward.  She worked for Canada Post for 20 years and operated Ye Olde Barne Gift Shop in Admiral before retiring in 1999. Joan was a committed community volunteer, devoted sports spectator, an avid reader, a loyal friend, and a proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Thank you to Dr.Rininsland for his care and to the dedicated staff at the Moose Jaw Union and Regina General Hospitals. A Celebration of Joan’s life will be held at Zion United Church, Moose Jaw on Friday April 23, 2010 at 2:00 pm.  Reverend Doug Hallman will officiate. If friends so desire, memorials in Joan’s name to World Vision Canada, 1 World Drive, Mississauga, ON, L5T 2Y4, would be appreciated. In living memory of Joan, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.

Loretta Metcalfe - Moose Jaw, SK: My deepest sypmpathies to the family.  I first met Joan when we used to meet to exercise with the People with Arthritis Can Exercise (P.A.C.E.)group.  When we lost our instructor we sll decided to meet on Mondays for coffee to stay in touch and share with each other.  It was our great pleasure to have Joan there and we all followed her recent struggles with all her illnesses.  Our thoughts and prayers were with her constantly.  We will miss her deeply.

What a great friend your Mom was to my parents.  It was amazing to see how close they remained even after your parents moved to Moose Jaw. She was a dear person. I still remember her "sincere" smile! Lisa Warrington: Chris, Pam, Rhonda and Mark: We are deeply saddened at the passing of Joan. My dad and I have been sharing stories of times past and there are some special times that will always be remembered. For example, the times at "The Park" and all the wonderful family reunions that were such an important part of me, Debbie and Lyn's childhood. Your mom was instrumental in putting these gatherings together. I remember what a hard worker she was and her dedication and undying love for Uncle Danny (miss him too!). I grew up in Heward and I remember Danny & Joan's visits to Aunt Madeline & Uncle Dick as being very fun. Danny was always the life of the party and Joan seemed to be the nicest & kindest person ever. I enjoyed the video. Sorry I couldn't attend.
