PHYLLIS HILL

Phyllis Hill, a soldier, of The Salvation Army Moose Jaw Citadel Corps, was "Promoted to Glory", Wednesday, May 5, 2010. Phyllis was born in Moose Jaw on January 13, 1914, the first of six children, to Robert Henry Percival Cox and Louise Charlotte Humphreys. Phyllis attended school in Moose Jaw and graduated from Central Collegiate. Phyllis married Roland Leslie Hill, on May 2, 1932 in the Moose Jaw Salvation Army Citadel. They purchased the SE quarter Section 3, Township 17, Range 26, W2nd in 1935, where they laid the family roots for their five children, Twiy, Robert, Benita, Renée and Rolene. As Phyllis travelled the path of life, as wife and mother, she endured hardships as we all do. Phyllis would mourn the loss of her young son at age 2 1/2 yrs and then her husband of twenty-three years. Determined to survive, provide for her family and keep the land, she did all this with faith in her Lord. Phyllis became a soldier of the church after her marriage. The family was raised within the Salvation Army, its teaching of the Bible and its community work. Phyllis was a life member of the Salvation Army Home League ladies group, a life member of the visitation group, League of Mercy, and a Silver Star Mother, in recognition of a child becoming a minister within the Salvation Army. Phyllis was proud of the symbolism of her uniform and freely gave of her time and efforts to help others.

Jody Ryland - Indianapolis, IN: My thoughts and prayers are with all of you!

Myrna Prebushewski - Moose Jaw, SK: Renée.. So sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. Your love for her was evident with your dedication to her while in Providence Place.  She was very fortunate to have such loving daughters.  Her love will live on in your hearts forever. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Karen Paton - Moose Jaw, SK: Sorry for your loss. Your Mom/ Grandmother was a great lady.  I will always remember her smile and the twinkle in her eyes.

Jacquie Morrow - Courtenay, BC: Our hearts are sad, but we will always have such happy memories of the wonderful lady we were lucky to have as our Aunty Phyll. As someone already said, that smile and the twinkle in her eyes, always there, and will always bring a smile to our faces remembering her.

Alan Merrilees - Winnipeg, MB: All the times my family, or I, would journey to Moose Jaw to visit I remember Auntie Phyllis as energized, independent, and wise. She had a quick wit and humour that was always entertaining. On trips out west to Calgary and Banff it was always a pleasure to have her with us. Good lives always leave a void when they are gone, but that is only because we loved them so when they were here. Her own caring has left a legacy of life that will inspire long after this sad time. And, that is what good lives are meant to do.

Barry & June Dewhurst - Moose Jaw, SK: Twiy...So sorry to hear of your Mom's passing.  Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time.

Lloyd Hall -  My deepest sympathy to you.

Andrea Polz - Vancouver, BC: Aunty Phyllis was a wonderful woman. She shared her life with so many and gave of herself and her time selflessly. I feel privileged to have known her and am very sorry that she has passed...I will also remember the twinkle in her eyes as it's the same one my Grandpa (Robert) had too!

Jo-Anne Hemming: Those of us who are remembering Auntie Phyllis at this time are comforted by the wonderful memories she left with us.  Memories that, even now, make us smile and warm our hearts.  As children, we thought the twinkling eyes, the hugs and the "fairy bread" were meant just for us.  As we grew we saw that Auntie Phyllis' love and caring extended beyond her family to her church, her community and to anyone in need.  We loved her and we knew she loved us.  We are content now in the certain knowledge that she is safe and happy and that she will always be with us.

Jim Cox - Duncan, BC: Our thoughts are with you all during this sad time.  We wish we could be there with you to celebrate her loving and caring life, we will always remember the twinkle in her eyes and the warm smile she shared with everyone.

Kelvin & Darlene Catling - Moose Jaw, SK: Twiy Schiffner and Families. It's with our deepest sympathy on your loss on your Mom.
