HAZEL HOBDAY

Hazel Annie Hobday of Moose Jaw passed away at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital on May 1, 2010.  Hazel was born on December 5, 1919 and was the only child of Eva and Marvin Pratt. She was raised on the family farm in the Riverhurst area and later attended Normal School in Moose Jaw. She taught at Sunset School in the Buffalo Pound Lake district where she met her future husband Fred Hobday. Hazel and Fred married in 1943 and then settled in Moose Jaw where they raised their seven children. Hazel was a dedicated homemaker and a committed volunteer in her community. She was recognized for more than 50 years of active service with St. John Ambulance.  Hazel was a member of Zion United Church and for many years was the Secretary of the United Church Women.  For the last 5 years Hazel resided at Ina Grafton Gage Home where she enjoyed the various activities. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Fred in 1994. She is lovingly remembered by her sons and daughters: Ed (Colleen) - Saskatoon, Ken (Louise) - Calgary, Fred (Cathy) - Calgary, Cecil (Inger) - Gabriola Island, Muriel (Clive) Tolley - Moose Jaw, Joyce (Ivan Olynyk) - Saskatoon, and Jean - Moose Jaw; 14 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. The family would to thank the staff of Ina Grafton Gage Home and the members of the health care team at the Union Hospital for providing compassionate care for our Mother.  The Funeral Service will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 2:30 p.m.  Reverend Doug Hallman will officiate.  Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to a charity of your choice.  In living memory of Hazel, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.
